[0001] The present invention relates to a wall edge painting assistive device that is capable of facilitating a user in painting the edge of a wall in an appropriate manner thereby reducing manual efforts and time-consumption. Additionally, the proposed device is capable of providing visual guidance to the user for efficiently painting the edge.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] A painting tool could potentially refer to a specialized tool or system designed to make the process of painting more efficient, precise, and user-friendly. Such a tool might have features tailored to the unique challenges of painting vertical surfaces, such as adjustable height, precision control, and mechanisms to ensure even coverage. Traditional methods involve using paintbrushes or rollers, which can be time-consuming and may require scaffolding or other equipment for hard-to-reach areas. Technological advancements have led to innovations in painting tools and devices that aim to streamline and improve the efficiency of such tasks.

[0003] Major drawbacks faced by the traditional edge painting tools are Using brushes or rollers for pillar painting can be labour-intensive, particularly for large or intricate structures which may require significant time and effort, and the painter may need to work at various heights, leading to fatigue. And pillars often have intricate designs or hard-to-reach areas, making it challenging to achieve uniform coverage with traditional tools. Also, it is time-consuming, especially when compared to more modern tools designed for efficiency. Thus, the challenge is to make a device that is capable of painting a wall surface as per a user-specified area and further determines in case the area remains unpainted to paint the remaining area in an automated manner.

[0004] US3688739A discloses a light weight mobile painting machine suitable for painting or providing other treatment to vertical surfaces, such as walls. The machine includes extendible tubes which support the machine adjacent the wall. A roller unit having a plurality of paint applying rollers and a paint reservoir is mounted on the tubes for vertical movement there along. A spring and pulley system coupled to the roller unit is used to counterbalance the weight of rollers.

[0005] EP3656476A1 discloses a painting device is provided with: a paint output part which outputs paint toward an object to be painted; paint piping through which the paint passes toward the paint output part; a steel ball disposed inside the paint piping; and a paint supply part which supplies the paint to the paint piping from the opposite side of the paint output part. After the paint supply part stops the supply of the paint, the steel ball moves inside the paint piping toward the paint output part while the paint output part outputs the paint toward the object to be painted. A first moving fluid pushes the steel ball to move the steel ball inside the paint piping toward the paint output part.

[0006] Conventionally, many devices have been developed that are capable of aiding a user while painting edge of the wall. However, these devices are incapable of facilitating a user in painting the edge of a wall in an appropriate manner and fails in reducing manual efforts of the user in the overall process. Additionally, these existing devices also lack in providing visual guidance to the user for efficiently painting the edge.

[0019] In any embodiment described herein, the open-ended terms "comprising," "comprises," and the like (which are synonymous with "including," "having" and "characterized by") may be replaced by the respective partially closed phrases "consisting essentially of," consists essentially of," and the like or the respective closed phrases "consisting of," "consists of, the like.

[0020] As used herein, the singular forms "a," "an," and "the" designate both the singular and the plural, unless expressly stated to designate the singular only.

[0021] The present invention relates to a wall edge painting assistive device that is capable of providing an assistance for the user in painting the edge of a wall in an efficient manner thereby minimizing manual efforts of the user in the overall process. In addition, the proposed device also provides visual guidance to the user for efficiently painting the edge.

[0022] Referring to Figure 1, an isometric view of a wall edge painting assistive device is illustrated, comprising a rectangular body 1 constructed with plurality of extendable plates 2, an inverted U-shaped handle 3 that is gripped by the user for handling the body 1, a microphone 4 is positioned on the handle 3, a rectangular flap 5 installed with the body 1 via a pair of motorized hinges 6, plurality of motorized hinges 7 configured between the plates 2, a pair of telescopically operated links 8 are installed with the body 1 and a pair of wheels 9 attached with the links 8.

[0023] The device disclosed herein includes a rectangular body 1 configured with plurality of extendable plates 2 fabricated with a foam pad that is developed to be positioned in contact with edge of a wall to be painted. The body 1 is in the rectangular shape which offers a large storage capacity for several mechanical and electrical units to be placed within the body 1. Also, the body 1 is light in weight and is cast with highly durable materials which are easy to be carried from one place to another as per the requirement of the user.

[0024] The outer surface of the body 1 is coated with thin paint sheets which shield the body 1 from dust and water buildup, as well as prevent the body 1 from rusting if exposed to the outer atmosphere. The body 1 is equipped with an inverted U-shaped handle 3 that is gripped by the user for handling the body 1 in an appropriate manner.

[0025] Further, a microphone 4 is embedded on the handle 3 for enabling the user to paint the edge of the wall. The microphone 4 is a type of transducer which converts the sound into electrical signal. The magnetic field created due to current in the voice coil interacts with the magnetic field of the microphone 4's magnet, which forces the coil to move back and forth, this movement of the coil is detected by an inbuilt microcontroller in the form of electrical signal. Also, an inbuilt microcontroller is pre-fed with the instructions required to control the operation of various components associated with the proposed device.

[0026] Upon processing the voice commands, the microcontroller activates a speaker mounted on the handle 3 for notifying the user to dip the foam pad in paint stored in an auxiliary paint bucket. The speaker consists of a set of magnets. One of the magnets is permanent magnate and another one is an electromagnet which made of a conducting coil which is fixed with the diaphragm of the speaker. Whenever, the electric current is passed across the coil, the electromagnet either attracted towards the permanent magnets or repelled away from the electromagnet. This back-and-forth movement causes the diaphragm to vibrate and that results in generation of the sound wave which is heard by the user.

[0027] After dipping of the foam pad in the paint as detected by means of multiple moisture sensors arranged with the foam pad, the microcontroller actuates a pair of motorized hinges 6 for tilting and deploying a rectangular flap 5 installed with the body 1 which is initially stored in a stowed state. The moisture sensor is comprised of a pair of conductive probes and whenever the moisture is present in between the probes, there occurs a voltage flow across the probes, which is detected by the microcontroller. If the moisture level is more, then the high voltage flow occurs across the probes and similarly in case of low moisture, the voltage flow is low.

[0028] The hinge joint employed herein comprises of a pair of plates 2 that is screwed with two different surfaces where one of the surfaces is the rectangular flap 5 and the other surface is of body 1. The pair of plates 2 are connected with each other by means of a cylindrical member that is integrated with a shaft coupled with the motor. The microcontroller actuates an on/off switch that is embedded with the motor to pass electric current which results in the rotation of the motor and in turn rotation of the shaft. The rotation of the shaft results in the opening and closing of the hinge joint. When the motor rotates in a clockwise direction the shaft rotates in the clockwise direction and resulting in the opening of the hinge joint. When the motor rotates in an anticlockwise direction, then the shaft rotates in the anticlockwise direction and results in the closing of the hinge joint, thereby providing tilting movement to the flap 5 .

[0029] Then, the microcontroller actuates a pair of motorized sliders configured between the hinges 6 and sides of the body 1 for translating the flap 5 for squeezing out excessive paint from the foam pad. The motorized sliders consist of a pair of sliding rails fabricated with grooves in which the wheel of a slider is positioned that is further connected with a bi-directional motor via a shaft. The microcontroller actuates the bi-directional motor to rotate in a clockwise and anti-clockwise direction that aids in the rotation of the shaft, wherein the shaft converts the electrical energy into rotational energy for allowing movement of the wheel to translate over the sliding rail by a firm grip on the grooves. The movement of the motorized slider results in the translation of the flap 5 for squeezing out excessive paint from the foam pad.

[0030] Synchronously, the microcontroller activates the speaker for notifying the user to position the body 1 along the edge of wall and directs multiple motorized hinges 7 configured between the plates 2 for tilting the plates 2 towards/away from each other for molding the body 1 as per curvature of the wall. Herein, the microcontroller by means of the imaging unit detects shape/design of the edge of the wall based on which a laser projection unit mounted on the handle 3 gets actuated by the microcontroller for projecting a laser beam to guide the user in maneuvering the body 1 along the edge for painting the edge.

[0031] Further, a pair of telescopically operated links 8 are configured with the body 1 that are actuated by the microcontroller to extend for positioning a pair of wheels 9 arranged with the link in contact with the edge for facilitating in movement of the body 1 on the wall. The telescopically operated links 8 are powered by a pneumatic unit including a pneumatic cylinder, air compressor, electronic valve, cylinder and piston. The valve is an electronic valve that allows entry/exit of compressed air from the compressor. Furthermore, the valve opens and the compressed air enters inside the cylinder thereby increasing the air pressure of the cylinder. The piston is connected to the cylinder and due to the increase in the air pressure, the piston extends. For the retraction of the piston, air is released from the cylinder to the air compressor via the valve. Thus, providing the required extension/retraction of the links 8 , for positioning the pair of wheels 9 in contact with the edge.

[0032] In addition, multiple pressure sensors are mapped with foam pad for detecting pressure exerted by the foam pad on the wall. Herein, in case the detected pressure recedes a threshold value, the microcontroller activates the speaker for notifying the user to applying pressure on the handle 3 for exerting an optimum pressure on the wall for accurately painting the edge. The pressure sensor consists of a measuring coil which measures the strain generated due to pressure applied and converts the measured strain into electrical pulse. Further the microcontroller processes the electric pulse in order to detect the amplitude of the pulse in order to detect the pressure applied by foam pad on the wall.

[0033] The device is associated with a battery integrated with the device for supplying a continuous DC (direct current) voltage to the components such as motors, microcontrollers and various other components that are associated with it. The battery used in the invention is preferably Lithium-ion battery that is rechargeable once again after getting drained out for proper functioning of the components.

[0034] The present invention works best in the following manner, where the rectangular body 1 constructed with plurality of extendable plates 2 fabricated with a foam pad as disclosed in the proposed invention. Now, the inverted U-shaped handle 3 that is gripped by the user for handling the body 1 and provides the voice command to the user via microphone 4 for painting the edge of the wall. Then, the speaker notifies the user to dip the foam pad in paint stored in auxiliary paint bucket and the rectangular flap 5 via motorized hinges 6 tilt and deploy the flap 5 for squeezing out excessive paint from the foam pad. Also, multiple motorized hinges 7 tilt the plates 2 towards/away from each other for molding the body 1 per curvature of the wall and the laser projection unit projects a laser beam to guide the user in maneuvering the body 1 along the edge in view of painting the edge. Further, the pair of telescopically operated links 8 attached with wheels 9 for maneuvering the body 1 on the wall in an appropriate manner as per the requirement.

[0035] Although the field of the invention has been described herein with limited reference to specific embodiments, this description is not meant to be construed in a limiting sense.
