Abstract

A logic gate is a basic instrument that acts as a building block for digital circuits. They execute basic logical functions that are elemental to digital circuits. The majority electronic devices we use today will have several forms of logic gates in them. For example, logic gates can be used in digital electronics such as smart phones and tablets. These logic gates are simple digital circuits that take binary inputs and produce a binary output. The input and output relationship is based on a certain logic. Understanding logic gates is basic to become expert in digital electronics.Students frequently confused to identify the types of logic gates. We proposed a role play method to understand AND logic gates effectively. We noticed that students felt very comfortable in understanding AND gate by this method and gave a regenerative feedback.

Specification

Description:Description
1. Title: Role play method to effectively teach the truth table of AND logic gate
2. Field of Invention: Teaching methodology
3. Abstract:

4. Background:
In order to improve student learning, instructors should identify concepts that are difficult for students to understand. Instructors can then change course material or teaching methods to focus on these difficult concepts. Researchers can develop assessment tools and effective teaching approaches like active learning techniques based on common student misconceptions to measure the effects of pedagogical changes. Logic gates are simple digital circuits that take one or more binary inputs and produce a binary output. Different logic gates have different logical conditions. The input and output relationship is based on a certain logic. These gates are implemented using electronic switches such as diodes, transistors. Understanding logic gates is fundamental to mastering digital electronics.Students often confused to remember logic gates. We proposed a role play method to understand logic gates effectively.
5. Objective of Invention:
To introduce logic gates to students by a role play method for improved comprehension.
6. Summary of Invention:
We proposed an efficient method to make students to learn logic gates effortlessly for indelible memory.
7. Information about analysis:
In this method, a role play is conceived by us with the objective that the two students who act in the role play should convey to their fellow students that they both are friends, by miming, without speaking. We used this role play to teach the truth table of the logical AND gate to the students.
Case - 1: Initially, both the students are asked to stand idle without bothering each other as shown in the drawing. This is considered as - Logical '0' input for A and logical '0' input for B. When the students stand idle without any interaction, then it does not convey the message that the two students are friends. Similarly for logical inputs '0' and '0' the output of logical AND gate is '0'.
Case - 2: First student is asked to stand idle while the other student is asked to turn towards the first student and extend his hand forward with an intention to shake the hand. This is considered as - Logical '0' input for A and logical '1' input for B. In this case as well the message that the two students are friends is not conveyed to the audience. Similarly for logical inputs '0' and '1' the output of logical AND gate is '0'.
Case - 3: One of the students is asked to turn towards the other and extend his hand forward with an intention to shake the hand while the second student stands idle. This is considered as - Logical '1' input for A and logical '0' input for B. In this case also the message that the two students are friends is not conveyed to the audience. Similarly for logical inputs '1' and '0' the output of logical AND gate is '0'.
Case - 4: Now both the students are asked to turn towards each other and extend their right hands and shake hands with each other. This gesture conveys the message that the two students are friends. This is considered as - Logical '1' input for A and logical input '1' for B. In this case the output of the AND gate is '1'
Thus, this role play can be used to teach the truth table of the logical AND gate effectively, to the students. The whole role play was summarized in the following table and depicted in the drawing.
Student 1 Student 2 Is the Friendship between the students conveyed? Logical input (A) Logical input (B) AND gate output Y = A.B
Idle Idle No 0 0 0
Idle Tried to shake hand No 0 1 0
Tried to shake hand Idle No 1 0 0
Tried to shake hand Tried to shake hand Yes 1 1 1

8. Best method:
We concluded that this is the effective teaching approach which can be implemented in active learning technique to teach logic gates.
9. Applicability:
This method can be effectuated in teaching and learning logic gates. Tutor can adopt this role play technique to teach logic gates in a better way.

, Claims:• Students found themselves comfortable in grasping the concept of logic AND gate and gave a very good feedback.
