Abstract
This invention describes the process of development of a biodegradable gelatin-based nanocomposite film enhanced with citric acid as a cross-linker and nano copper oxide (CuO NPs) synthesized via a green method using Aloe Vera extract. The biopolymer gelatin, combined with glycerol as a plasticizer, is processed into films through a casting technique. The incorporation of CuO NPs, known for their antimicrobial properties and heavy metal adsorption, further enhances the film's functional performance. X-ray diffi·action (XRD) confrrms the crystalline structure of the nanoparticles. The green synthesis of CuO NPs eliminates the use of toxic chemicals, making the process eco-friendly and cost-effective. Biodegradability of the films was confrrmed through soil burial tests, which showed rapid degradation, positioning the material as a promising solution for sustainable packaging and environmental applications. This bio-nanocomposite offers a dual advantage of environmental safety and enhanced functional properties, contributing to both waste reduction and pollutant removal.
