Abstract

Transdermal drug delivery systems have garnered considerable attention due to their non-invasive nature and ability to provide sustained drug release. This invention focused on the development and evaluation of transdermal patches loaded with Pioglitazone, a potent thiazolidinedione used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. The transdermal patches were prepared using solvent casting process with a blend of biocompatible polymers and Pioglitazone. The formulated transdermal patches have tested for anti diabetic activity using male albino rats weighing about 200 g which were fasted for 18 hours before the experiment and found excellent anti-diabetic activity. The developed Pioglitazone loaded transdermal patches demonstrated promising characteristics and provides valuable insights into their potential as an effective and patient-friendly dosage form for the management of diabetes mellitus, offering improved therapeutic outcomes and enhanced patient compliance.
