NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING METHOD FOR CONTEXTUAL UNDERSTANDING OF ENGLISH IDIOMS AND PHRASES

ORDINARY APPLICATION

Abstract

The present invention provides a method and system for the contextual understanding of English idioms and phrases in natural language processing (NLP) applications. The invention employs a multi-stage pipeline comprising idiom detection, contextual embedding generation, semantic mapping, and interpretation ranking. A pre-trained idiom detection model identifies idiomatic expressions within a text, while a transformer-based language model generates contextual embeddings to capture the semantic relationships surrounding the idiom. A semantic knowledge graph maps idioms to their possible meanings and resolves ambiguities based on the context. The system ranks interpretations using confidence scores, ensuring accurate and contextually appropriate outputs. This invention is applicable in various NLP tasks, including machine translation, sentiment analysis, and conversational AI, and is scalable to handle idiomatic expressions across multiple languages and cultural variations.

Specification

Description:The embodiments of the present invention generally relates to the field of natural language processing (NLP) and artificial intelligence (AI), specifically to methods and systems for contextual understanding of idiomatic expressions and phrases in the English language. The invention addresses challenges in accurately interpreting idioms and phrases whose meanings deviate from their literal interpretations, improving their usage in NLP applications like machine translation, sentiment analysis, and conversational AI systems.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The following description of related art is intended to provide background information pertaining to the field of the disclosure. This section may include certain aspects of the art that may be related to various features of the present disclosure. However, it should be appreciated that this section be used only to enhance the understanding of the reader with respect to the present disclosure, and not as admissions of prior art.

Idiomatic expressions and phrases , Claims:1. A method for contextual understanding of idioms and phrases, comprising:
identifying idioms in text using a pre-trained idiom detection model;
generating contextual embeddings through a transformer-based language model;
resolving meaning ambiguities using a semantic knowledge graph; and
providing a contextually relevant interpretation of the idiom.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the transformer-based language model is fine-tuned on domain-specific idioms for improved accuracy.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the idiom detection model is trained using a combination of rule-based algorithms and deep learning techniques.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein confidence scores for each interpretation are used to filter out low-probability results.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the contextual embeddings are further refined using a fine-tuned idiomatic corpus specific to regional dialects and cultural nuances, enhancing the system's ability to adapt to localized idiomatic usage.

6. The method of claim
