Description:FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a multipurpose orthodontic bracket holding tweezer designed to minimize usage of multiple tools, increasing accuracy and minimising sterilisation of various instruments.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] A traditional orthodontic tweezer is just a simple grasping instrument that is chiefly used to pick up and place brackets at designated areas of the tooth's surface. They are very effective for elementary placing jobs, but they do not have more advance features that can help place brackets accurately in all planes of space to avoid misplaced brackets. Conventional tweezers typically require ancillary instruments to be used in a clinical setting, such as wire tucking and position verification in vertical and horizontal dimension, which lengthen the time for procedures and create a greater opportunity for mistakes. The need for a number of instruments adds to chairside time and the number of instruments to be sterilized, creating inefficiencies in clinical practice. Furthermore, the measurement systems of the conventional tweezers, which are non-integrated, also pose limitations to accurate bracket height as well as proper positioning of the bracket across each tooth resulting in the chances of treatment inconsistencies.

[0002] US5161969A discloses an orthodontic bracket has been designed which can be made of ceramic material. The bracket can be used for correcting Class II and Class III malocclusions without the use of a Kobiashi tie, ball hook, or power hook, which had previously been used to make such corrections. This invention, on the other hand, employs an integral hook design, which makes use of the same mechanics, but without requiring any brazing or welding of the hook to the body of the bracket.

[0003] Conventionally, many tweezers had been developed in prior, but none of the prior tweezers are capable of minimizing usage of multiple tools, to maintain sterilization, or capable of aiding a practitioner to minimize the placement error of the tweezer at the time of practice, or capable of minimizing the cost of operation by eliminating the requirement of other tools.

[0004] In order to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks, there is a requirement to develop a tweezer capable of minimizing usage of multiple tools, to maintain sterilization, or capable of aiding a practitioner to minimize the placement error of the tweezer at the time of practice, or capable of minimizing the cost of operation by eliminating the requirement of other tools.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION

[0005] The The principal object of the present invention is to overcome the limitations of the prior art.

[0031] Referring to figure 6 illustrates a left side view of an multipurpose orthodontic bracket holding tweezer.

[0032] Referring to figure 7 illustrates a front view of an multipurpose orthodontic bracket holding tweezer

[0033] The present invention is a multipurpose orthodontic bracket holding tweezer for the purpose of making the placement of orthodontic brackets more precise and efficient by the bringing together of various functionalities in one instrument. The invention is lowering errors in the horizontal and vertical planes, generally increases overall accuracy of placement, and streamlines the process with fewer tools necessary. The horizontal arm of the tweezer is equipped with horizontal markings that allow the orthodontic bracket to be placed correctly along the long axis of the tooth.

[0034] The scale given on the markings is 5 mm, which helps the user measure precisely in terms of the horizontal positioning of the bracket. A central depression of 0.5 mm depth and 1 mm width is given on the horizontal arm, used as a wire tucker. This depression enables the user to safely tuck the orthodontic wire into the bracket slots during procedure. Combining the functions of wire tucking and bracket placement into one instrument helps ensure that the tweezer is working efficiently and with precision.

[0035] The vertical arm has markings vertically along it to 10 mm. This would verify that there is the same vertical height of the bracket from both mesial and distal aspects of the tooth. The vertical scale allows brackets to be appropriately placed uniformly in the dental arch which reduces the incidence of alignment errors with thereby enhancing the overall treatment outcomes. The wire tucker feature is an important addition, inserted into the horizontal arm. The tucker utilizes the central depression to permit the safe placement of orthodontic wires into the bracket slots.

[0036] This is an integration of function in the tweezer that enables the invention to dispense with separate tools used in performing a wire-tucking method in the procedure. The step ladder markings of the tweezer beak allow for incremental adjustment to the bracket from the incisal edge. They offer 1 mm increments for fine-tuned positioning in up to a total of 5 mm. The step ladder design is very useful when making final adjustments to position the brackets from an overhead view so as to place them precisely as the clinician wants. This feature minimizes the failure of the bond from improper positioning, thus enhancing the dependability of treatment.

[0037] An important feature of the presented technique is that the multifunctional orthodontic bracket holding tweezer is one of the most efficient instruments in orthodontic treatment. Thus, thanks to both horizontal/vertical alignment verification, wire tucking, and the final adjustment a tweezer become useful for precise and efficient work concerning bracket placement. In using the tweezer, the orthodontist places the bracket on to the tooth.

[0038] Where the two wires of the tweezer meet on the back end there are horizontal graduated markings that assist when trying to check the bracket position parallel to the long axis of the tooth On the vertical part there are vertical graduated markings that will assist the user to place the bracket / band along the height of the tooth. After bracket placement, narrowing in the middle part on the horizontal arm acts as a tucker for the orthodontic wire.

[0039] This feature minimizes the maneuver that needs other tools to fix the wire into the bracket slots thus making the procedures more efficient. Step ladder markings on the beak make it easy to adjust the position of the bracket and reverting to the overhead view is equally easy. With such markings, the orthodontist is able to relate the position of the bracket height to the degrees and get an accurate measure of one millimeter increment to five millimeters. This helps to place the bracket in right position for the achievement of treatment objective.

[0040] This way, one horizontal and the corresponding vertical marking may be easily compared within the framework of the same object, which also helps to avoid mistakes in bracket positioning in both planes. Because the wire tucker, step ladder markings, and alignment scales can all be incorporated into a single piece, the invention itself will prove less costly than conventional tools. Multiplying a couple of functions in a single instrument decreases costs of equipment since the same cannot be achieved by the use of wire-tucking tools and the alignment verification tool. Education is faster since there are less instruments to clean and sterilize hence improving clinical turn around time and operations.

[0041] Consequently, tweezer is easy to use, beneficial for orthodontists with vast practice, as well as for students. Its design reduces the predisposition to error and allows for prolonged effective use during bracket placement. This increased efficiency functions as a tool inone that incorporates many brackets simultaneously, meaning that the time patients spend chair-bound is minimized, making them more comfortable.

[0042] Introducing the, multipurpose orthodontic bracket holding tweezer is another major development of Orthodontic care which results in improved precision, efficiency and user friendly bracket. The wire guide has horizontal and vertical scales for alignment of brackets and wires as well as a wire tucker for easier placement of the wires and step ladders for final adjustment of positions of the brackets and wires making it a vital accessory in any orthodontists tool box. Through condensation of numerous functions into one tool, invention reduces mistakes, decreases expenses, and facilitate in sterilization contributing to the enhanced clinical outcomes.

[0043] Although the field of the invention has been described herein with limited reference to specific embodiments, this description is not meant to be construed in a limiting sense. Various modifications of the disclosed embodiments, as well as alternate embodiments of the invention, will become apparent to persons skilled in the art upon reference to the description of the invention.
