Abstract
especially on highways, a lot of noise is generated which effects the driver, passengers and nearby surrounding population. Also, during large temperature variations, the road gets damaged due to expansion and as such cannot bear the heavy traffic movement. The blocks normally use M35 to M40 concrete mixes which prove to be weak and get damaged due to impact of wheels. The invented modified composite block removes all the above short comings. The block is made out of a more durable and strong concrete mix of M50. At regular intervals , uniformly divided pores of 50mm diameter and 50mm depth are provided. These pores are pre filled with a modified VG1 0 bitumen, which imparts viscoelastic properties to the block, acting as an effective noise-damping material. The material to some extent behaves both like a liquid and a solid. The noise is reduced by up to 75 %, hence reducing noise pollution. The block itself is 300mm by 300 mm and 1 OOmm thick. The VG1 0 bitumen within the pores enhances impact absorption up to a great extent. Also the coefficient of friction for the block meets the high-traction requirements specified as per codal requirements, with values exceeding 0.6 in wet conditions and 0.8 in dry conditions. The modified VG1 0 bitumen also contributes to durability by resisting deformation at high temperatures and maintaining flexibility at low temperatures, adding resilience under various climate conditions. M50 grade concrete provides exceptional compressive and flexural strength, with values of around 50 MPa thus proving to be more durable as compared to the previous concrete blocks. Thus the innovative block design provides noise reduction, structural strength, safety, and enhanced durability to give us a superior alternative to traditional pavement blocks in high-traffic environments.
