Abstract
ABSTRACT
A method (100) for synthesizing cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanoparticles. Further, the method comprising providing a solution containing cadmium acetate (Cd(OAc)2) as a cadmium source, sodium sulfide (Na2S) as a sulfur source, and thiourea as a stabilizing agent. Further, the method (100) comprising the steps of stirring the solution for a predetermined time to ensure complete dissolution of the components. Further, the method (100) comprising the steps of subjecting the solution to microwave irradiation at a power of approximately 80W for a duration of 5 minutes to facilitate the formation of CdS nanoparticles. Further, the method (100) comprising the steps of isolating the resulting yellow precipitate of CdS nanoparticles. Further, the method (100) comprising the steps of washing the precipitate with ethanol or distilled water and drying it at a temperature of about 55°C for a period of 6 hours.

Description:
FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE
[0001] This invention generally relates to the field of cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanoparticles and, in particular, to a method for synthesizing CdS nanoparticles using a microwave-assisted process that is efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly, aimed at enhancing their applicability in photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants.
BACKGROUND
[0002] The subject matter discussed in the background section should not be assumed to be prior art merely as a result of its mention in the background section. Similarly, a problem mentioned in the background section or associated with the subject matter of the background section should not be assumed to have been previously recognized in the prior art. The subject matter in the background section merely represents different approaches, which in and of themselves may also correspond to implementations of the claimed technology.
[0003] The increasing demand for efficient and sustainable methods in the field of materials scienc , Claims:WE CLAIM:
1. A method (100) for synthesizing cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanoparticles, the method comprising the steps of:
providing a solution containing cadmium acetate (Cd(OAc)2) as a cadmium source, sodium sulfide (Na2S) as a sulfur source, and thiourea as a stabilizing agent;
stirring the solution for a predetermined time to ensure complete dissolution of the components;
subjecting the solution to microwave irradiation at a power of approximately 80W for a duration of 5 minutes to facilitate the formation of CdS nanoparticles;
isolating the resulting yellow precipitate of CdS nanoparticles; and
washing the precipitate with ethanol or distilled water and drying it at a temperature of about 55°C for a period of 6 hours.
2. The method (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the concentration of cadmium acetate used is approximately 13.32 grams.
3. The method (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the concentration of sodium sulfide used is approximately 3.9 grams.
