Abstract

ABSTRACT A method (100) for secondary metabolite production in Tinospora cordifolia, the method (100) comprising the steps of preparing a sterile culture medium comprising nutrients, growth hormones, and at least one elicitor, introducing Tinospora cordifolia explants into the prepared medium under sterile conditions, culturing the explants to form callus tissue under controlled environmental conditions and applying the elicitor to the culture to stimulate secondary metabolite production. <>

Specification

Description:
FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE
[0001] This invention generally relates to a field of metabolite production and in particular relates to a method for secondary metabolite production in Tinospora cordifolia.
BACKGROUND

[0002] The subject matter discussed in the background section should not be assumed to be prior art merely as a result of its mention in the background section. Similarly, a problem mentioned in the background section or associated with the subject matter of the background section should not be assumed to have been previously recognized in the prior art. The subject matter in the background section merely represents different approaches, which in and of themselves may also correspond to implementations of the claimed technology.
[0003] Tinospora cordifolia, a climbing shrub from the Menispermaceae family, is widely recognized for its pharmacological potential due to its production of various bioactive secondary metabolites, including alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, and glycosides. These metaboli , Claims:1. A method (100) for secondary metabolite production in Tinospora cordifolia, the method (100) comprising the steps of:
preparing a sterile culture medium comprising nutrients, growth hormones, and at least one elicitor;
introducing Tinospora cordifolia explants into the prepared medium under sterile conditions;
culturing the explants to form callus tissue under controlled environmental conditions; and
applying the elicitor to the culture to stimulate secondary metabolite production.

2. The method (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the at least one elicitor comprises methyl jasmonate in a concentration range of 50-100 µM.
