Abstract
ABSTRACT
A method (100) for removing blocking artifacts from compressed images. Further, the method comprising receiving a compressed image exhibiting blocking artifacts. Further, the method (100) comprising the steps of determining fuzzy relationships between neighboring pixels within the compressed image using predefined membership functions. Further, the method (100) comprising the steps of applying fuzzy inference rules to evaluate the degree of blocking artifacts present in the image. Further, the method (100) comprising the steps of performing a smoothing operation on the compressed image based on the determined fuzzy relationships to reduce the visibility of blocking artifacts while preserving important image features. Further, the method (100) comprising the steps of generating an artifact-free image by reconstructing the image from the smoothed pixel values.

Description:
FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE
[0001] This invention generally relates to the field of image processing and, in particular, relates to a method for removing blocking artifacts from compressed images using fuzzy logic techniques to enhance visual quality and preserve important image features.
BACKGROUND
[0002] The subject matter discussed in the background section should not be assumed to be prior art merely as a result of its mention in the background section. Similarly, a problem mentioned in the background section or associated with the subject matter of the background section should not be assumed to have been previously recognized in the prior art. The subject matter in the background section merely represents different approaches, which in and of themselves may also correspond to implementations of the claimed technology.
[0003] The increasing use of digital imaging and video compression techniques has led to widespread adoption of various compression algorithms, which significantly reduce file sizes for st , Claims:1. A method (100) for removing blocking artifacts from compressed images, the method comprising the steps of:
receiving a compressed image exhibiting blocking artifacts;
determining fuzzy relationships between neighboring pixels within the compressed image using predefined membership functions;
applying fuzzy inference rules to evaluate the degree of blocking artifacts present in the image;
performing a smoothing operation on the compressed image based on the determined fuzzy relationships to reduce the visibility of blocking artifacts while preserving important image features; and
generating an artifact-free image by reconstructing the image from the smoothed pixel values.
2. The method (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the fuzzy inference rules are designed to prioritize edge preservation during the smoothing operation to maintain significant image details.
