Abstract

ABSTRACT A method (100) for optimizing the performance of a Pulse Detonation Engine (PDE). Further, the method comprising designing a PDE structure with a combustion chamber, a Shchelkin spiral, and an expansion section. Further, the method (100) comprising the steps of conducting a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis to simulate fluid flow and combustion dynamics within the PDE. Further, the method (100) comprising the steps of varying inlet pressure conditions during the CFD analysis to assess the impact on detonation wave propagation and engine performance. Further, the method (100) comprising the steps of analyzing the resulting pressure and velocity contours to determine optimal fuel-oxidizer ratios and combustion efficiencies. Further, the method (100) comprising the steps of implementing design modifications based on the analysis results to enhance thrust and overall efficiency of the PDE.

Specification

Description:
FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE
[0001] This invention generally relates to the field of advanced propulsion systems and, in particular, to a method for optimizing the performance of Pulse Detonation Engines (PDEs) through computational fluid dynamics analysis and structural integrity assessments, aimed at enhancing efficiency and reducing environmental impact in aerospace applications.
BACKGROUND
[0002] The subject matter discussed in the background section should not be assumed to be prior art merely as a result of its mention in the background section. Similarly, a problem mentioned in the background section or associated with the subject matter of the background section should not be assumed to have been previously recognized in the prior art. The subject matter in the background section merely represents different approaches, which in and of themselves may also correspond to implementations of the claimed technology.
[0003] The increasing demand for efficient and environmentally friendly propulsion systems ha , Claims:WE CLAIM:
1. A method (100) for optimizing the performance of a Pulse Detonation Engine (PDE), the method comprising the steps of:
designing a PDE structure with a combustion chamber, a Shchelkin spiral, and an expansion section;
conducting a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis to simulate fluid flow and combustion dynamics within the PDE;
varying inlet pressure conditions during the CFD analysis to assess the impact on detonation wave propagation and engine performance;
analyzing the resulting pressure and velocity contours to determine optimal fuel-oxidizer ratios and combustion efficiencies; and
implementing design modifications based on the analysis results to enhance thrust and overall efficiency of the PDE.

2. The method (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the computational fluid dynamics analysis is performed at multiple inlet pressures, including at least 5 bar and 50 bar, to evaluate the effects of varying pressure on detonation wave characteristics and engine thrust performance.
