Abstract

ABSTRACT A method (100) for inducing seedling vigor in osmotic stress, the method (100) comprising the steps of treating rice seeds with a hydropriming solution to obtain treated seeds, subjecting the treated seeds to a priming duration of 24 hours at a controlled temperature in the range of 30-36°C in darkness along with gentle agitation to obtain primed seeds and drying the primed seeds to an original moisture content to obtain dried seeds, wherein the dried seeds are sown for osmotic stress tolerance. <>

Specification

Description:FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE
[0001] This invention generally relates to a field of osmotic stress and in particular relates to a method for inducing seedling vigor in osmotic stress.
BACKGROUND

[0002] The subject matter discussed in the background section should not be assumed to be prior art merely as a result of its mention in the background section. Similarly, a problem mentioned in the background section or associated with the subject matter of the background section should not be assumed to have been previously recognized in the prior art. The subject matter in the background section merely represents different approaches, which in and of themselves may also correspond to implementations of the claimed technology.
[0003] Agriculture frequently encounters significant challenges in managing plant growth under adverse environmental conditions, particularly during drought and osmotic stress. Drought-induced osmotic stress hampers water uptake, leading to stunted growth, lower germination rates, and reduced cr , Claims:1. A method (100) for inducing seedling vigor in osmotic stress, the method (100) comprising the steps of:
treating rice seeds with a hydropriming solution to obtain treated seeds;
subjecting the treated seeds to a priming duration of 24 hours at a controlled temperature in the range of 30-36°C in darkness along with gentle agitation to obtain primed seeds; and
drying the primed seeds to an original moisture content to obtain dried seeds, wherein the dried seeds are sown for osmotic stress tolerance.

2. The method (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the hydropriming solution includes potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KH2PO4) and polyethylene glycol (PEG-6000) at concentrations of 10% and 5%, respectively.

3. The method (100) as claimed in claim 2, wherein the rice seeds are selected from cultivars with high drought tolerance, to maximize the osmotic tolerance of the dried seeds under 10% and 20% PEG-6000 osmotic stress conditions.
