Specification
Description:DESCRIPTION:
We are all aware that learning a language requires not only an understanding of syntax, phonology, and lexis, but also an awareness of certain cultural traits. It is inevitable that interacting internationally also entails communicating intercultural, which likely results in us running into aspects of cultural differences. Every language has these kinds of variations, including the proper topic of discussion, the tone of voice, the location of quiet, and expressions as speech act functions. Nonetheless, language is seen as a social and cultural phenomena since its usage is often associated with social and cultural values. Every culture has its own set of conversational standards, and because these norms differ from one another, some of them may be completely different and contradictory to those of other cultures. As a result, speakers who are unfamiliar with or differ from cultural norms may struggle to communicate. There are instances when educators barely recognize the value of cultural sensitivity. Grammar rules are applied both orally and in writing as part of communication. Sometimes, gaining knowledge of the target culture is taken as a danger to indigenous values, and the significance of information that is pertinent to the language is overlooked. Since it is uncommon for all language learners in our nation to have intimate contact with the target culture and its speakers, learners cannot fully understand the significance of acquiring the cultural nuances of communication until they travel abroad and encounter the challenges. TV shows are occasionally used to teach nonverbal elements of the target culture, which are not at all useful for communication or may even spread false beliefs. Helping students differentiate between the cultural norms, attitudes, or practices of the majority within the speech community and the individual or group deviations from some of these norms is crucial for fostering cultural awareness in the classroom. Students should be given authentic experience content while also having the opportunity to talk about their home culture with their peers who speak other languages. They can apply what they've learned about the foreign language. Additionally, there ought to be two parallel streams of presentations, discussions, or mere references. We cannot expect all students to ever develop flawless native-like behavior since language instruction, as previously said, is a lengthy process in which performance is not absolute. Our goal is to help students become more conscious of the sociolinguistic and sociocultural distinctions between their first and target languages. Such knowledge frequently aids educators and learners in understanding why there are occasionally unanticipated pragmatic failures and breakdowns in Interaction. A multidimensional approach that incorporates culture, technology, and a range of learner backgrounds is necessary for language instruction in today's technologically sophisticated and globalized society. Creating inclusive and productive language learning environments requires embracing cultural variety.
