Abstract

ABSTRACT A method (100) for detecting trace explosives using nanoparticles, the method (100) comprising: synthesizing nanoparticles with high surface area and reactivity; functionalizing the nanoparticles to selectively bind with explosive compounds; exposing the functionalized nanoparticles to a sample; detecting the presence of bound explosive compounds through changes in optical, electrical, or magnetic properties of the nanoparticles; and analyzing the detection signal to determine the presence and concentration of trace explosives.

Specification

Description:FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE
[0001] This invention generally relates to methods for detecting trace explosives using nanoparticles, and more specifically, to a method for using nanoparticles as a tool in the sensitive and selective detection of trace explosives to ensure high accuracy and reliability in safety and security applications.
BACKGROUND

[0002] The subject matter discussed in the background section should not be assumed to be prior art merely as a result of its mention in the background section. Similarly, a problem mentioned in the background section or associated with the subject matter of the background section should not be assumed to have been previously recognized in the prior art. The subject matter in the background section merely represents different approaches, which in and of themselves may also correspond to implementations of the claimed technology.
[0003] Traditional methods of detecting trace explosives often involve chemical sensors, ion mobility spectrometry, and canines, which may s , Claims:1. A method (100) for detecting trace explosives using nanoparticles, the method (100) comprising:
synthesizing nanoparticles with high surface area and reactivity;
functionalizing the nanoparticles to selectively bind with explosive compounds;
exposing the functionalized nanoparticles to a sample;
detecting the presence of bound explosive compounds through changes in optical, electrical, or magnetic properties of the nanoparticles; and
analyzing the detection signal to determine the presence and concentration of trace explosives.

2. The method (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the functionalization of the nanoparticles enhances the selectivity for specific explosive compounds.
