Abstract
ABSTRACT A method (100) for detecting co-crystal formation between salicylic acid (SA) and benzamide (BZD. Further, the method comprising preparing a physical mixture of salicylic acid and benzamide in a predetermined molar ratio. Further, the method (100) comprising the steps of subjecting the physical mixture to a thermal analysis using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) to identify endothermic and exothermic peaks indicative of co-crystal formation. Further, the method (100) comprising the steps of performing Infrared Spectroscopy (IR) analysis on the physical mixture and the resulting co-crystals to detect characteristic peak shifts associated with hydrogen bond formation. Further, the method (100) comprising the steps of conducting a crystallographic analysis using Powder X-ray Diffraction (XRPD) to confirm the crystalline structure of the synthesized co-crystals. Further, the method (100) comprising the steps

Description:
FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE
[0001] This invention generally relates to the field of pharmaceutical co-crystallization and, in particular, to a method for detecting and synthesizing co-crystals of salicylic acid and benzamide using environmentally friendly techniques that minimize the use of harmful solvents and reduce the overall environmental impact of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
BACKGROUND
[0002] The subject matter discussed in the background section should not be assumed to be prior art merely as a result of its mention in the background section. Similarly, a problem mentioned in the background section or associated with the subject matter of the background section should not be assumed to have been previously recognized in the prior art. The subject matter in the background section merely represents different approaches, which in and of themselves may also correspond to implementations of the claimed technology.
[0003] The pharmaceutical industry continually seeks innovative approaches to enha , Claims:1. A method (100) for detecting co-crystal formation between salicylic acid (SA) and benzamide (BZD), the method comprising the steps of:
preparing a physical mixture of salicylic acid and benzamide in a predetermined molar ratio;
subjecting the physical mixture to a thermal analysis using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) to identify endothermic and exothermic peaks indicative of co-crystal formation;
performing Infrared Spectroscopy (IR) analysis on the physical mixture and the resulting co-crystals to detect characteristic peak shifts associated with hydrogen bond formation;
conducting a crystallographic analysis using Powder X-ray Diffraction (XRPD) to confirm the crystalline structure of the synthesized co-crystals; and
utilizing the ?pKa rule to evaluate the likelihood of co-crystal formation based on the acid-base properties of the components involved.
2. The method (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the predetermined molar ratio of salicylic acid to benzamide is either 1:1 or 1:2, enhancing t
