4. DESCRIPTION (Description shall start from next page.)
Internet of Things (IoT) Based Supply Chain Management System for Real-Time Tracking,
Optimization and Automation
Field of the Invention
Computer Science application in Management
Background of the Invention Supply chain management has traditionally relied on manual processes, leading to inefficiencies, delays and inaccuracies in inventory and logistics. With the advent of IoT technology, there is an opportunity to transform supply chain management through real-time data collection, predictive analytics and automation. This invention addresses these challenges by providing a comprehensive IoT-based solution.
Summary of the Invention
The invention provides a system and method for managing supply chain operations through the integration of IoT devices and cloud-based software. The system collects data from various IoT sensors deployed at different points in the supply chain, including warehouses, transportation
vehicles and retail stores. This data is transmitted in real-time to a central platform where it is analyzed to provide insights, automate inventory replenishment, optimize routing and predict potential disruptions.
Detailed Description of the Invention
System Architecture
1. IoT Devices:
Sensors: Deployed in warehouses and on goods to monitor environmental conditions (temperature, humidity) and movement.
RFID Tags: Attached to products and pallets to track their location and status throughout the
supply chain.
GPS Units: Installed in transportation vehicles for real-time location tracking and route
optimization.
2. Communication Network:
Protocols: The system utilizes a combination of wireless communication protocols such as Wi-Fi,
Bluetooth, LoRa, and cellular networks for data transmission.
Data Encryption: Data transmitted by IoT devices is encrypted using secure protocols to prevent
unauthorized access.
3. Cloud-Based Platform:
Data Storage: A cloud-based database stores all incoming data from IoT devices.
Data Analytics: Advanced analytics tools, including machine learning algorithms, analyze the
data for pattern recognition, demand forecasting, and anomaly detection.
User Interface: A web-based dashboard provides supply chain managers with real-time insights,
alerts, and control options.
4.
Software Components:
Inventory Management Module: Automatically updates inventory levels based on real-time data from sensors and RFID tags.
Predictive Analytics Module: Uses historical data and real-time inputs to forecast demand, optimize inventory levels, and suggest replenishment schedules.
Logistics Optimization Module: Analyzes GPS data to optimize delivery routes, minimize fuel consumption, and reduce delivery times.
5.Operational Workflow
1. Data Collection:
• IoT sensors continuously monitor the conditions of goods in storage and transit, reporting data to the cloud platform.
• RFID tags and GPS units provide location and movement data for goods and vehicles.
2. Data Processing:
.The cloud platform aggregates and processes the data to detect trends, forecast demand, and identify potential disruptions in the supply chain.
3. Decision-Making and Automation:
Based on the analyzed data, the system can automatically reorder stock, reroute shipments, or adjust storage conditions to prevent spoilage or damage.
4. User Interaction:
Supply chain managers access the system via a dashboard to monitor real-time operations, receive alerts, and intervene when necessary.
6. Drawings
System Diagram: A block diagram showing the integration of IoT devices, communication networks, and the cloud-based platform.
Flowchart: A flowchart depicting the data collection, transmission, processing, and decisionmaking process within the system.
Detailed Schematics: Detailed schematics of specific components, such as the sensor network in a warehouse or the GPS tracking in transportation vehicles.
5.
