Specification

Description:FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to sustainable agricultural practices and eco-friendly horticultural solutions, specifically focusing on biodegradable plant containers made from coconut coir and cow dung. These containers, known as Green Root Pots, provide a sustainable alternative to traditional plastic pots, supporting plant growth while minimizing environmental impact.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Agriculture generates a significant amount of plastic waste due to the widespread use of plastic containers and mulches. These non-biodegradable materials persist in the environment, leading to ecological pollution, wildlife disruption, and soil degradation. Furthermore, plastic pots offer limited water retention and aeration, necessitating frequent watering and increasing the risk of root diseases. Weed growth and pest infestations add to the challenges, increasing reliance on herbicides and pesticides. Traditional plastic pots also impede optimal root development due to limited air circulation, which can hinder plant health and growth.
The current state of agricultural practices calls for sustainable solutions that address these environmental and functional issues. While biodegradable pots exist, few provide the combined benefits of water retention, aeration, weed suppression, and nutrient enrichment. The Green Root Pot invention aims to fulfill this gap by utilizing natural materials like coconut coir and cow dung, which not only improve soil health but also support eco-friendly practices by decomposing naturally without leaving harmful residues. This approach offers farmers a sustainable, low-maintenance, and labor-saving solution to enhance crop yield and promote sustainable agriculture.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
This summary is provided to introduce a selection of concepts, in a simplified format, that are further described in the detailed description of the invention.
This summary is neither intended to identify key or essential inventive concepts of the invention and nor is it intended for determining the scope of the invention.

The Green Root Pot is created through a process that begins with the collection of dry coconut coir, which serves as the primary biodegradable material. The coir is sun-dried to eliminate moisture, enhancing durability and preventing mold growth. Once dry, the coir is thoroughly cleaned to remove impurities, ground into uniform particles, and combined with cow dung-which serves as a natural binder and provides essential nutrients. Clay is added to improve the pot's structural stability.
The mixing process involves blending the ground coconut coir, cow dung, and clay in a 3:1:1 ratio. This mixture is thoroughly combined to ensure even distribution of nutrients and materials. Water is added gradually to moisten the mixture, enhancing compaction during molding.
The molding process uses frames or molds to shape the mixture into pots of various sizes. The mixture is tightly compacted within the mold to maintain shape and durability. Drainage holes are created in each pot, allowing excess water to escape and preventing root diseases caused by waterlogging.
Once molded, the pots undergo a drying phase in a shaded, well-ventilated area. The drying process can take several days, depending on humidity levels, ensuring that the pot structure solidifies. The pots are then inspected for quality, ensuring that each is firm and maintains its shape, with intact drainage holes for proper water management.
The mulch mat lid component is an optional addition that suppresses weed growth, conserving moisture and protecting the plant roots from temperature fluctuations. The lid reduces the need for herbicides and provides an extra barrier against pests.
Characteristics of the Green Root Pot include:
• Eco-Friendly: Made from biodegradable coconut coir and cow dung, the pot reduces plastic waste in agriculture.
• Water Retention: Coconut coir's fibrous structure allows for superior moisture retention, ensuring consistent hydration for plants.
• Natural Aeration: The porous coir material supports airflow to roots, promoting healthy root development and reducing soil compaction.
• Weed Suppression: The optional mulch mat lid prevents weed growth, conserving nutrients and reducing herbicide use.
• Nutrient-Rich: Cow dung enriches the growing medium with essential nutrients, enhancing soil fertility and promoting plant health.
• Durable Structure: The compressed coir mixture maintains stability while providing adequate drainage for excess water.
• Low Maintenance: Designed for easy use, the Green Root Pot requires minimal upkeep, saving time and labor for farmers.
