FREQUENCY ADAPTATION WITH FLUIDICALLY SWITCHABLE PATCH ANTENNA

ORDINARY APPLICATION

Published

date

Filed on 20 November 2024

Abstract

A fluidically switchable patch antenna is disclosed. The fluidically switchable patch antenna includes a top layer, a patch positioned on a front side of the top layer, a middle layer comprising a substrate made of a polymer-based material, plurality of microfluidic channels directly engraved within the substrate, and a bottom layer serving as a ground plane. Further, a method for adapting a frequency using a fluidically switchable patch antenna is disclosed. A fluid is pumped into a specific set of the plurality of microfluidic channels through an inlet to obtain a desired frequency. <>

Specification

Description:TECHNICAL FIELD

The present disclosure relates to a fluidically switchable patch antenna, and particularly relates to adapting the frequency of fluidically switchable patch antenna.

BACKGROUND OF THE DISCLOSURE

Wireless communications heavily rely on antenna technology to ensure reliable and interference-free communication. Reconfigurable antennas have emerged as a crucial solution, capable of dynamically adapting their electrical properties to changing operational requirements and environmental conditions. Frequency reconfigurability in antennas may be achieved through both electrical and mechanical approaches.

Mechanical or physically reconfigurable antennas modify the antenna's radiating structure without relying on switching mechanisms or bias circuits. For example, frequency reconfiguration is attained by mechanically altering the electrical length of the components that make up the antenna elements. Nevertheless, this approach is limited by the device's physical reconfiguration capabilities.

Con , Claims:WE CLAIM:

1. A fluidically switchable patch antenna comprising:
a top layer;
a patch positioned on a front side of the top layer;
a middle layer comprising a substrate made of a polymer-based material;
plurality of microfluidic channels directly engraved within the substrate; and
a bottom layer serving as a ground plane.

2. The fluidically switchable patch antenna as claimed in claim 1, wherein the plurality of the microfluidic channels are positioned near radiating edges of the fluidically switchable patch antenna.

3. The fluidically switchable patch antenna as claimed in claim 1, wherein the plurality of the microfluidic channels have an inlet and an outlet, and have a height in a range of 1 to 2 mm.

4. The fluidically switchable patch antenna as claimed in claim 1, wherein the plurality of the microfluidic channels comprises the same polymer-based material as that of the substrate, and wherein the plurality of microfluidic channels is engraved in the substrate in a single step process using Fused
