Background of the invention and the related Prior Art
[002] A myriad of microorganisms inhabit the skin and cause various skin diseases. Examples of such microorganisms include Staphylococcus aureus causing skin suppuration and resident skin flora such as Staphylococcus epidermis, Propioni- bacterium acnes and Pityrosporum ovale. These bacteria decompose sebaceous matter and sweat secreted from the skin, thus causing unpleasant odors and the resulting decomposed products irritate the skin, causing inflammation. In particular, Propionibacterium acnes decomposes sebum to produce free fatty acids, utilizing lipase which is a fatty acid-decomposing enzyme. The resulting free fatty acids not only irritate skin, but also cause inflammatory lesions such as red rashes including papules, pustules and nodules, as exhibited in acne. Dermatophytes invade the stratum corneum of hairs and skin, causing superficial mycoses. As examples of Dermatophytes causing superficial mycoses, mention may be made of Microsporum, Trichophyton and Epodermophyton which are pathogens causing trichophytosis. Candida albicans causes skin candidiasis and chronic skin/mucosal candidiasis. Such fungi cause superficial mycoses leading to various lesions due to their parasitic nature and proliferation on corneous tissues of the skin. As a causative agent that causes granulomatous lesions on other skin and subcutaneous tissues, mention may be made of the pathogenic fungi Sporothrix schenckii.
[003] Meanwhile, among herbal medicines, there are known a large number of medicines that have been widely utilized as external preparations since ancient times, in treatment of skin diseases caused by bacteria and fungi. Recently, a great deal of attempts have been made to scientifically elucidate effectiveness of herbal medicines that have been conventionally used in folk remedies and passed on from generation to generation, and based on results therefrom, research to find active ingredients of herbal medicines having novel antimicrobial activity is being actively undertaken. As a relatively well-known herbal medicine having antimicrobial activity, berberine, which is an alkaloid contained in Phellodendron amurense, Coptis japonica, etc., is listed as berberine chloride in the Korean Pharmacopoeia and has a broad antimicrobial spectrum.

[037] Citrus Limmetta (Sweet Lime) The fruit that we typically associate with limes is not the same as sweet lime. The fruit resembles a giant lemon in size when fully ripe, and its skin is either pale green or, more frequently, yellow. The tartness-causing acidity is absent from the flavor. The end product has a light, crisp flavor that is best consumed straight from the tree or as a juice. This unusual citrus has dense, evergreen foliage that is frequently distinctly cupped or rolled. It is said to be a cross between a Mexican lime and a sweet lemon.
[038] Sweet lime, like all citrus fruits, contains potent vitamins and nutrients. Its high vitamin C and folic acid content ensure strong immunity, glowing skin health, and support for bones and joints. As explained in the book "Health-Promoting Properties of Fruits and Vegetables" (Simonne et al., 2011), citrus also contains other extremely beneficial compounds including chlorophyll, carotenoids, phenolics, flavonoids, and limonoids. According to the "Nutritive Value of Indian Foods" published by the National Institute of Nutrition, 100g of sweet lime has following significant nutrient values: Sweet limes are used for many purposes. For example, they are suitable for eating and contain oils, including peel oil as well as juice oil, which are volatile in nature. They contain a high amount of ascorbic acid (Sandhu & Minhas, 2006), and their juice is used as a sweet drink in summer. Limonene (60.17%) is the most abundant terpene, followed by gamma-terpinene (11.80%), terpinolene (2.96%), beta-pinene (2.08%), linalool (1.85%), p-cymene (1.38%), geranial (1.33%), and alpha-terpineol (1.28%). The remaining terpenes amount to less than 1% and are found in the peel oil of the sweet lime (Abdul et al., 1992).
[039] ORANGE (CITRUS SINENSIS)
[040] This family includes the sweet orange (Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck), sometimes known as orange. It is a key source of vitamins, particularly vitamin C, and has adequate amounts of folacin, calcium, potassium, thiamine, niacin, and magnesium (Angew, 2007). Oranges are a valuable fruit crop from an economic standpoint; as of 2005, production of 60 million metrictonnes of oranges was valued at $9 billion globally. Half of this total originated in the United States and Brazil (Goudeau et al., 2008; Bernardi et al., 2010). According to FAO estimates from 2009, there were nine million hectares of citrus growing worldwide, and 122.3 million tons of fruit were produced, placing sweet oranges as the most popular fruit crop (Xu et al, 2013).(6) Citrus sinensis (L. Osbeck) or sweet orange originated from south East Asia, but is consumed all over the world as an excellent source of vitamin C, a powerful natural antioxidant that builds the body immune system. Important phytochemicals like liminoids, synephrine, hesperidin flavonoid, polyphenols, pectin, and sufficient amount of folacin, calcium, potassium, thiamine, niacin and magnesium are also present. These biologically active compounds prevent arteriosclerosis, cancer, kidney stones, stomach ulcers and reduction in cholesterol level and high blood which promote human health(6).
[041] NUTRITIVE VALUES
