THE EFFECTIVE SEALING OF THE TRACTION MOTOR DRIVING END BEARINGS, FROM GEARCASE OIL INGRESS

Abstract

2.0 Abstract. 2.1 A sealing device to minimize. the drive end bearing's grease contamination from gear case leaked oil in the traction motors working on the Electrical Multiple Units (EMU) on the Indian Railways 2.2 The design under invention, features a modified design assembly consisting of the bearing end inner cap and a rotating labyrinth with a magnetic pathway between the traction motor bearing and the gearcase oil, to prevent the movement or leakages in mist, fog or liquid forms of lubricants into bearings. In the present embodiments a modified traction motor shaft with stator mounted static bearing cap accompanied with a bearing isolator assembly helps to prevent the migration oflubricants from gear box. 2.3 The stator body mounted bearing with cap at one end cap and the stationary bearing isolator with the magnetic seal at the traction motor shaft mounted rotating labyrinth base, act as independent running surfaces. This assembly protects the DE bearing from the oil leakages during flooded environment of the mist, fog or liquid through the gear case assembly due to either low or high levels or high-speed operation of pinion gear.
