Abstract
Abstract: Toothbrushes are rapidly contaminated with different microorganisms representing a possible cause of infection or reinfection especially in the patients under therapy. The purpose of this patent was to provide a toothbrush with inbuilt 0.12% Chlorhexidine antimicrobial solution that will help to reduce the microorganisms and provide disinfection. Toothbrushes used at home contain many bacteria that can contaminate the oral cavity. In toothbrushes, the bristles can harbor inherent microorganisms, further increasing the bacterial contamination. Contaminated toothbrushes may cause oral and systemic illnesses, including sepsis, gastrointestinal disorders, cardiovascular disease, respiratory distress, and kidney disease. Due to storage conditions or poor hand hygiene, toothbrushes can be contaminated with microbes present in the air. In addition, toothbrushes are usually stored in the toilet and are heavily contaminated by intestinal bacteria in the air. Therefore, toothbrush disinfection is essential to maintain toothbrush and oral hygiene. The use of chemical reagents remains an effective and convenient method for toothbrush disinfection. Bacteria in the mouth were significantly reduced after immersing a toothbrush in Listerine mouthwash for 20 minutes. Several studies have reported the effectiveness of disinfecting toothbrushes with other solutions containing 0.12% chlorhexidine, such as mouthwashes and sprays, da Silva et al. reported the effectiveness of submerging toothbrushes in 0.2% chlorhexidine for 20 minutes a day for disinfection. Other studies reported that 100% of the bacterial population was removed from a toothbrush when soaked in 0.12% chlorhexidine solution for two hours, followed by 0.2% chlorhexidine for 20 hours. Hence a innovative toothbrush with inbuilt sanitising solution containing 0.12% chlorhexidine can effectively remove the microorganisms and provide disinfection.

Title of Invention:
ECOFRIENDLY TOOTHBRUSH WITH INBULT SANITISING SOLUTION
Field Of Invention:
Various disinfection methods are used for sterilising a toothbrush. Most common methods among them are chlorhexidine, UV, Microwave irradiation. UV and microwave irradiation might cause damage to the bristles. Low-intensity UV rays are not effective against certain microbes and molds. Furthermore, tightly packed bristles and other areas are not in direct exposure and have no chance of disinfection. UV light and microwave irradiation causes harmful effects to our eyes and skin. It often causes chronic eye damage. Hence UV light devices are not recommended to be used for sterilizing toothbrushes. Several studies have reported that bacterial contamination can be reduced by washing toothbrushes after use, and drying under aerated conditions. Hence a toothbrush with in built antimicrobial solution will help reduce the bacterial count and provide effective sterilisation. This inbuilt toothbrush sanitiser solution will be released once the brushing is complete by pressing a button. This will effectively remove the microbes and prevents microbial proliferation. To make the toothbrush ecofriendly, it will be made from bamboo with provision for 0.12% Chlorhexidine antimicrobial solution that will be inbuilt in the toothbrush. The toothbrush head is detachable and the
antimicrobial solution can be refilled and used without discarding the toothbrush.
Detailed description of Invention:
A toothbrush with in built antimicrobial solution will help reduce the bacterial count and
provide effective sterilisation. This inbuilt toothbrush sanitiser solution will be released once the brushing is complete by pressing a button. This will effectively remove the microbes and prevents microbial proliferation. To make the toothbrush ecofriendly, it will be made from
bamboo with provision for administering the 0.12% antimicrobial solution. The toothbrush head is detachable and the antimicrobial solution can be refilled and used without discarding the toothbrush.
The tooth brush head will have minute pores through which the sanitizing solution will spray
through the pores. The body of the tooth brush will be a detachable handle. This detachable
handle will provide as a provision for refill of the 0.12% chlorhexidine antimicrobial solution. The body of the toothbrush will have a transparent front through which one can asses the amount of solution inside the toothbrush. The bottom of the detachable handle will have a push button to dispense the antimicrobial solution. The base or handle of the toothbrush will be made of biodegradable material like bamboo which makes the brush more ecofriendly.

Summary:
To summarize, the ecofriendly tooth brush with inbuilt sanitizing solution will help in prevent
the risks of reinfection or infection by other pathogenic microorganisms from the environment. Several bactericidal agents have been promoted to reduce the possibility of toothbrush bacterial contamination between uses. These include the use of chlorhexidine, Brushtox, and several dentifrices. While all these have shown varying degrees of efficacy, none are widely used as a home-based application. In the recent years, there has been an increasing interest in the interrelationship between contaminated toothbrushes and systemic reinfections. Several studies have also stressed on the role of contaminated toothbrushes and its causation in systemic infections. In another study, Fischer pointed to a relationship between contaminated toothbrushes and pharyngitis. Significant bacteremia has also been reported after tooth brushing, especially in patients with severe periodontitis. Therefore, a concern has been raised that the microbial load on toothbrushes might have a significant impact in periodontal patients under therapy. There is a definite contamination of the toothbrushes after use; hence need arises for either improving sanitization measures or frequent changes of toothbrushes especially after any infections. Hence a toothbrush with inbuilt sanitising solution will help in reducing the microbial load and improve the health of people.
