Abstract
This patent is for bioactive compound isolated from an extract of the roots of Clerodendrum indicium. The structure of the bioactive compound resembles to that of flavonoids, which occur as aglycones, glycosides and methylated derivatives. Clerodendrum indicium often referred to as chingari or bharangi, is a member of Lamiaceae family. Clerodendrum genus shows many properties like expectorant, stomachic, anti neoceptive, anti-microbial, anti-diarrheal, anti-bronchitis etc. So, this isolated structure may be used for developing medicine for treating any of these ailments.

Specification
Description:PLANT SOURCE: It consists of dried roots of Clerodendrum indicium.
CHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION
Flavonoids occur as aglycones, glycosides and methylated derivatives. Flavonoids with no sugar attached, or aglycones, can take many different structural forms in plants. The skeleton of diphenyl propane makes up the core chemical structure of flavonoids, which have a main nucleus with fifteen carbon atoms and two six-membered rings connected by a three-carbon unit that may or may not be a component of a third ring. Mostly, a third heterocyclic pyrene ring that contains oxygen connects two benzene rings (rings A and B). Thus, C6-C3-C6 with the labels A, B, and C is another name for this structure.
BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY
Antioxidant activity
As one of the most promising phytochemicals, flavonoids interfere with the variables that cause disease by working as antioxidants.
Anti-inflammatory activity
In general, it has been suggested that flavonoids have a crucial role in inflammation-related illnesses like rheumatoid arthritis, ileitis/colitis, leukemia, sepsis, asthma, sclerosis, atherosclerosis, psoriasis, and allergic rhinitis. In order to eradicate invading pathogens and heal damaged tissues, this process is followed by the recruitment of inflammatory cells and the release of ROS, RNS, and proinflammatory cytokines. Normal inflammation often resolves quickly and goes away on its own, but abnormal resolution and protracted inflammation lead to a number of chronic illnesses 60. Quercetin, luteolin, and hesperidin are known to have this kind of anti-inflammatory effect. They primarily impact the enzyme systems that produce inflammatory reactions. Additionally, phospho-di-esterases that are involved in cell activation are inhibited by flavonoids.
Anti bacterial activity
Strong antibacterial properties have been demonstrated for apigenin, galangin, flavone and flavonol glycosides, isoflavones, flavanones, and chalcones. The way antimicrobials work may have to do with their capacity to render microbial adhesins, enzymes, transport proteins of the cell membrane, and other substances inactive. Bacterial membrane disruption can also be caused by lipophilic flavonoids.
Antiviral action
It has been discovered that flavon-3-ol selectively inhibits HIV-1, HIV-2, and other immunodeficiency virus-causing infections more effectively than flavones and flavonones. Other research indicates that naringin, hesperetin, and quercetin also have anti-dengue properties.
Anti cancer activity
Numerous biological processes, including apoptosis, vascularization, cell differentiation, proliferation, and others, may be modulated by flavonoids. Flavonoid-induced kinase regulation is still strongly correlated with tumor cell invasion behavior, cell proliferation, and death in vitro. Along with their effects on development and hormone action, flavonoids primarily promote the carcinogenicity's start and promotion stages. They also work by inhibiting the expression of Ras proteins, down regulating the mutant p53 protein, cell-cycle arrest, and many other cancer-causing enzymes.
