THE FIELD OF INVENTION (PACKAGING INDUSTRY)
The invention pertains to innovative advancements in the pollution control Board, specifically in the areas of
Smart Port and Smart Cities.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Shipping vessels with engines run on heavy fuel oil. Heavy fuel oil is much cheaper than the petrol used in land
transport, but it also has a high polluting impact. Ports are often close to heavily populated urban a_reas. The S02
content of Heavy Fuel Oil is 2700 times higher than road fuel! The main S02 source remaining is from ships
coming into port.
IMPACT OF SO, AND CO, POLLUTANTS
A recent study found that emissions from diesel engines, commonly used in the freight industry, are significantly
more hannful to humans than those from petrol vehicles. Recent studies have found that diesel exhaust exposure
directly increases cancer risk. The tiny particles get into the lungs and are small enough to pass through tissues
and enter the blood stream. They can then trigger inflammations which eventually cause heart and lung failures.
Ship engines produces criteria air pollutants like nitrogen oxides (NO.,) and sulphur dioxide (SO,) that makes
air pollution look brown, as well as carbon monoxide (CO) and large quantities of carbon dioxide (CO,), a
greenhouse gas that contributes to global wanning and they cause smog, acid rain, and other respiratory hazards.
ESTIMATION BY WHO
The World Health Organisation estimates that long tenn exposure to PM2.s is associated with an increase in the
risk of cardiopulmonary mortality by 6-13% per I 0 J.lg/m3 of PM,.s. PM,.s refers to particles that have
diameter less than 2.5 micro metres (more than 100 times thinner than a human hair)
RACE TO PRODUCE NET ZERO CARBON EMISSION
A race to produce net zero carbon neutral goals was organised among the countries. The European Union,
Japan and the Republic of Korea, together with more than II 0 other countries, have pledged carbon neutrality
by 2050; China says it will do so before 2060.
MEASURES TAKEN SO FAR TO REDUCE POLLUTION
Managing the types of diesel fuel.
Cleaning or "scmbbing" the emission products of exhaust, what is known as "stack gas," to reduce or
eliminate hannful waste products.
Reducing the sulphur content of diesel fuel worldwide to further combat the global effects of these
emission products .
Shipping industry are looking for alternatives to petroleum fuels.

• Arduino UNO- It is an open-source microcontrollcr board, which is inexpensive .
• Node MCU 8266: The information about all the street lights will be sent to the cloud by this
node.
• GSM: It wirelessly sends data between Arduino and Node MCU 8266. There are two GSM
available, one on Arduino and the other on Node MCU.
• Temperature and Humidity sensor: It is a sensor that gives the measurement of the
Temperature and Humidity of the filter thus the stability of temperature inside the filter remains
the same.
WORKING MODEL
• The required materials are collectively assembled as a single unit and placed in the street lights
pole of the smart port, in cranes and also in ships (Triple Laver Protection).
The air in the atmosphere passes through the filter and even the minute particles get filtered.
• MQ 5 and NDIR C02 sensors senses the toxic gases and checks the quality of air.
The purified air is sent to the atmosphere through the fan attached with the DC motor.
Detailed information of the air processing in smart ports, are sent to the Pollution Control
Board of the smart port through GSM. Nearly I 0 street lights can be connected to a single GSM .
Node MCU 8266, contains the IP address of the pollution control board that receives the live
information of the pollution status in that specific street where effective actions will be taken
We Claim
I. Claim: The proposed model is being attached to the street lights, cranes and in ships
without occupying much space in the smart ports. It filters the Toxic contents of the air and J·ets the
fresh air out.
2. Claim: The Air Purifier is a Cost Effective model Death rates can be reduced
3. Claim: All the information about the air purifier will be maintained by the Pollution
Control Board in the smart port
4. Claim: The air purifier can hmciion in Semi and Fully Automatic mode.
