2. Step-Up Transformers: These increase the voltage level, which is particularly useful for long-distance transmission of electricity. Higher voltages result in lower current for the same power, reducing energy losses during transmission. This is based on the principle of P = VI.

WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF A TRANSFORMER
Mainly transformer is used to step up or step down the current using electro-magnetic induction method. In transformer there are primary and secondary coil made up of conducting material. Depending upon the number of turns of each coil, the current will either step up or step down. Current supply will come to transformer as a whole which will be dangerous to use directly. So transformer is used to either convert high voltage to low voltage (Step down) or convert low voltage to high voltage (Step up). If the number of turn in primary coil is high than secondary coil then the current is stepped down. If the number of turns in secondary coil is high than primary coil then the current is stepped up. Transformer in streets will convert the current to the frequency which matches the frequency of home appliances so that it will run smoothly without any problem.
